Arroyo
A flat-bottom gully with steep sides that is a channel for an intermittent stream. An arroyo, a Spanish word translated as brook, and also called a wash is usually a dry river, creek or stream bedgulch that temporarily or seasonally fills and flows after sufficient rain. Flash flooding can cause the cutting of deep arroyos or deposition of sediment on flooded lands.
