Beaver
The beaver inhabits most of America and can be found along rivers and streams, as well as open water. The Beaver is one of the largest rodents in existence weighing anywhere from 40 to 60 pounds.
Most people know Beavers for their penchant for building intricate dams and lodges. Their long incisor teeth help them to gnaw down trees by cutting their way all the way around the tree trunk. Beaver dams are built to back up the water into ponds which, in turn, create a new ecosystem for the animal, allowing for the growth of new shrubs, trees and more.
Beavers love aspen, birch, willow, poplar, cottonwood and basswood trees. They use trees as building material as well as the bark for food.
